The mission of the Epilepsy Unit of the Hospital del Mar is to be a national reference in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy throughout all ages of patients' life. For this, it seeks to have the highest technology and professional training possible at an international level. Relevant part of our mission is to achieve these goals by placing the patient in the centre of attention, giving a care focused on their needs and those of their relatives. To this end, the aim is always to provide as much information as possible, making the patient participate in the decisions that are adopted in the health process.
For these purposes, the Epilepsy Unit evaluates, diagnoses and treats adults and children with all forms of epilepsy, as well as patients who suffer frequent attacks that may be of epileptic etiology. The Program offers comprehensive care to both outpatients and hospitalized patients and provides them with a wide range of pharmacological and surgical therapeutic options, including research therapies and alternatives not available at other centers. Patients requiring inpatient treatment receive care in a specialized neurological unit. The entire diagnostic process is done based on the patient and their needs, granting at all times the information and follow-up necessary to carry out a high quality process.
