The successful projects are "Obtaining antioxidant active substances from the carob pod and validating their therapeutic potential", which involves the company Euronutra, the IBIMA (Malaga Biomedical Research Institute), the IMIM (Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute), and the CRG (Centre for Genomic Regulation); and the project "Development of a new therapy for Fragile X syndrome", in which the company Connecta Therapeutics, the IMIM, and the CRG are participating.

This is a pioneering Data Analytics project in Spain, which will enable us to increase our knowledge of the evolution of COVID-19 and its interaction with patients with other pathologies based on the analysis of discharge reports. The initiative is the result of collaboration between Hospital del Mar, the technology company Bismart and Ferrer Laboratory and uses the artificial intelligence tool Bismart Folksonomy. In less than a month, a project has been launched with more than 34,000 hospital and emergency room discharges, 2,700 of which correspond to COVID-19 patients. This will allow an in-depth analysis of their evolution and the relationship of the infection with other basic pathologies.

The company Chemotargets -based in the Barcelona Science Park and a leader in in the global market as a provider of intelligence and drug design prediction platform- has signed a strategic agreement with the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM) to discovery and development of new oncological therapies that respond to important unmet medical needs.

This is the first time that anyone has studied how brain alterations at a functional level in mice with Down syndrome respond to chronic treatment with a component of green tea that we know, from other studies, improves executive functions in adults with Down syndrome.

Researchers at the Hospital del Mar Institute for Medical Research have led a study demonstrating how the relationship between two molecules plays a key role in the generation of these cells. The work has been published in The EMBO Journal.

A joint study between Hospital del Mar, IDIBELL, the University of Helsinki and the Spanish National Research Council funded by La Marató de TV3 tries to analyze the effects of music therapy (musical learning) once patients have finished hospital rehabilitation and are in a chronic state of the disease. To do this, they designed a keyboard linked to a smart tablet that allows the participants of the study to do their exercises at home and learn gradually in an established manner. An earlier study of the same group shows that musical therapy, like other therapies, has similar effects in motor rehabilitation for patients who have suffered a stroke, having a strong impact in mood improvement and quality of life.
