In 2013, the Epilepsy Unit was a pioneer in the use of robotic surgery for epilepsy in Spain. More than 15 implantations with deep electrodes using the technique of Stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) are performed per year, making our unit one of the centers with more experience accumulated in Spain using this technique. The number of complex epilepsy surgeries has increased significantly in recent years.
In addition, the Epilepsy Unit attains the highest technology standards in neuroimaging that scale up to pioneering postprocessing procedures to MRI. With these methodologies it is possible to locate possible epileptic foci that can be studied through invasive recordings. We also accumulated high experience in the interpretation of tests such as functional MRI for memory and motor functions. Specific focus localization studies such as PET-MRI, PET-SPM, ictal-interictal SPECT / SISCOM are also performed.
